Keeping your creative impulses popping can be difficult sometimes. Especially on big open ended personal projects where you’re looking for some undefinable “it just feels right” end state. So what can you do when things slow down to a halt and you stop making headway?
One way is to take on a creative public project with a defined, short, timeline. This is something that I first became aware of in the game development community. Called ‘jams’, they often have a 24 hour, 48 hour, or similarly short length of time for a deadline. In that time you have to create as much of a finished work based on the prompt as you can.
If you read that and feel instantly anxious, fear not. Many groups who run these jams also publish the entries. If you don’t want to take part in one, or the timing just isn’t soon enough, a really great way to kickstart your mind back into creativity is to read through some of these creations. User sofinho1980 on reddit has been so kind as to just this. You can check out their blog post here:

It has a collection of 45 entries from the 48 hour RPG jam they recently participated in. They’ve summarized each of the entries to make it even easier for you. Go check it out and get some free inspiration for that tired creative brain of yours!
